The Adaptive Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing adaptive strategies into program activities and operations, creating an inclusive environment where individuals with disabilities can build confidence, develop skills, and experience community. This role provides guidance on adaptive best practices, procedures and guidelines, and participant behaviors to staff. By working closely with participants and families as well as staff and leadership, the Coordinator helps modify program operations, structures, spaces, and materials to meet the specialized needs of individuals and groups. This position is a compassionate, positive role model and contributes collaboratively to the YMCA’s mission and goals.
The Adaptive Coordinator will initially support Adaptive programming within the Aquatics department and report to the Aquatics Director. This position will assist with the administration and delivery of Adaptive swim lessons, including participant and family communication, intake interviews, and accurate record keeping. The Coordinator will support daily program operations through direct, in-ratio instruction, staff communication and training, and by ensuring program spaces, processes, and materials are accessible and responsive to the unique needs of Adaptive participants. During camp seasons, the Coordinator will also support Adaptive Camp programming and provide assistance in other program areas as needed.
