Overview

Overnight Summer Camp Excursions Counselor

 

Provides counselor oversight for campers ages 14-16, while also providing support to backpacking and camping activities, and leadership skills development. The position adheres to all camp policies and schedules, teaches and leads activities, knows and enforces safety rules, cares for camp equipment and facilities, works well in a team and sets a positive example for teens to follow.

Season dates: May 28 - August 8, 2025

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead campers in outdoor excursions outside the camp location.
  • Provide daily communication with campers and camp staff.
  • Develop camper leadership skills.
  • Understand and teach campers the “Leave No Trace” principles.
  • Provide support to campers in a backcountry setting.
  • Actively follow and model all rules, operating procedures, instructions, and established emergency procedures.
  • Carry and properly use the necessary equipment during activities.
  • Provide constant supervision and ensure the safety of participants.
  • Maintain and promote a positive approach and model expeditionary behavior.
  • Ensure the camp environment is welcoming, genuine and nurturing for all campers and guests.

Qualifications

  • Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older and have obtained high school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years’ experience working with teens in the Day Camp, Resident Camp or like setting.
  • Backpacking experience.
  • Must be able to live on-site during program season.
  • Good customer service and communication skills when interacting with teens, parents, and the community.
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills including standing, hiking and/or climbing for extended periods of time.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills along with the ability to maintain a positive approach.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $92.84 - USD $97.84 /Da.
