Overview

Overnight Camp Weekends Retreat Instructor

Provides counselor oversight for campers of all ages, while also providing support to hiking and camping activities, and leadership skills development. The position adheres to and enforces all YMCA Camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Schedule: Friday- Sunday as needed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead campers in outdoor excursions at designated camp locations
  • Provide daily communication with campers and camp staff.
  • Develop camper leadership skills and participant activity.
  • Responsible for scheduling, leading, and teaching camp activities.
  • Understand and teach campers the “Leave No Trace” principles.
  • Provide support to participants in a camp setting.
  • Actively follow and model all rules, operating procedures, instructions, and established emergency procedures.
  • Carry and properly use the necessary equipment during activities.
  • Provide constant Camp Area supervision and ensure the safety of participants.
  • Maintain and promote a positive approach and model appropriate behavior.
  • Ensure the camp environment is welcoming, genuine, and nurturing for all campers and guests.

Qualifications

  • Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older and have obtained a high school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years’ experience working with teens in the Day Camp, Resident Camp or like setting.
  • Must be able to live on-site during program season.
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills including standing, hiking and/or climbing for extended periods of time.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills along with the ability to maintain a positive approach.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30-days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $96.78 - USD $99.78 /Da.
