Overview

Overnight Camp Wrangler

 

Provide constant supervisor of children and horses in the equine program. Assist with evening programs, special events, parent check in, assessing rider ability, and helping plan and implement camper horse show. Follow all camp policies and schedules. Know and enforce safety rules, care for camp equipment and facilities, work well in a team and set a positive example for children to follow.

Season dates: May 25 - August 8, 2025

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for first aid, feeding, grooming, saddling, bathing, and exercising of horses
  • Employ good teaching and leadership techniques in providing quality instruction
  • Be continually safety conscious and use good judgment in all aspects of camper supervision
  • Maintain and care for all horse facilities and equipment
  • Clean cabins and bathrooms, participate in camp chores, and assist in larger projects as requested by Camp Director
  • Knowledge of camp operating procedures
  • Follow all rules and instructions, carry and use properly necessary equipment during activities, know and follow camp emergency procedures
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of investment in camp, including the cleanliness of facilities, care of equipment and supplies, and stewardship of the natural environment
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with the team of other camp counselors and directors
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills including: standing, hiking and/or climbing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to teach and lead activities
  • Must be able to live on-site during program season

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with horse preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience with teaching or leading youth required
  • Experience and skill to lead western riding, arena lessons, ground classes, and trail rides, to riders of all abilities
  • Experience and skill to teach and lead horse care skills
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $92.84 - USD $97.84 /Da.
