Overview

Under the guidance of the Health and Wellness Director, the Lead Fitness Coach is responsible for onboarding fitness coaches to build positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service. The Lead Fitness Coach will ensure a safe, effective wellness environment to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of all participants.

Schedule

  • Morning shift weekdays 4:30am - 9:30am and weekends 6:30am - 11:00am
  • Shifts will offer 20 - 25 hours per week and 5 days a week. Exact hours may vary on needs

Responsibilities

  • Work to ensure that Fitness Coaches are consistently providing good customer service by implementing strong onboarding training, shadowing opportunities and timely refresher training 
  • Maintain superior knowledge of branch and Association programs, services, and policies in order to deliver a transformational experience and increase future enrollment. Be available for questions and inquiries from staff, members and program participants  
  • Monitor workout areas for potential hazards and properly record/track all maintenance issues 
  • Implements operating plans to promote wellness orientations, group exercise classes, personal training and other programs to increase retention 
  • Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and with the YMCA 
  • Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction. Handle member complaints and inquiries in a positive, courteous and expeditious manner 
  • Keep areas organized and tidy to better service members (re- rack free weights, refill cleaning supplies when needed, etc.) 
  • Be aware of and enforce fitness center (weight room) policies at all times 
  • Keep workout equipment and area clean including wiping down the machines during shift as needed 
  • Design and deliver equipment orientation programs that meet individual members needs according to the needs and goals of the participant 
  • Provide basic information/instruction to participants regarding how to properly use the fitness equipment 
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, good organizational skills, and strong problem solving 
  • Able to communicate clearly and positively, verbally and in writing 
  • Must have the ability to work as a positive, enthusiastic team player and team leader 
  • Requires excellent customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude. Must demonstrate excellent communication and public relation skills 
  • Working knowledge of UPACE orientation scheduling 
  • Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission and communities we serve 
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA Annual Support Campaign through sharing the YMCA’s fundraising efforts with the community, assisting in the recruitment of volunteers, articulating cases for support and processing donations according to Association guidelines 
  • Provide tools and information to increase member knowledge of fitness as well as other programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, charts, brochures, etc.) 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Fitness background required 
  • 2+ years’ of experience as a Fitness Coach 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $20.44 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
