The Gymnastics Coach is responsible for the delivery of quality gymnastics classes, regular communication with parents, and maintaining a safe environment while incorporating the YMCA’s Mission and Core Values.Position will involve coaching beginner level gymnastics among different classes, including: Preschool Gymnastics (ages 3-4) Girls and Boys Beginner Gymnastics (ages 5-7 and 7-12). Training will be provided on gymnastics class structures, lesson plans and class management. Our main focus is on positive youth development while maintaining a safe environment for our program participants to learn and grow in.

• The Y offers birthday parties on Saturdays and Sundays and the hours available vary depending on the birthday parties that are booked.

Schedule

• Tuesday 2:00PM-7:30PM
  Wednesday 2:00PM-6:30PM
  Thursday 2:00PM-6:00PM
  Friday 8:45AM-12:00PM & 3:15-6:00 PM

• Teach assigned classes, following all lesson plans and rotation schedule, including the rules and procedures of class and scheduling 

• Complete progression chart for each participant in the class to help advance participants from one level to next through outlined evaluation procedures 

• Maintain a basic knowledge of equipment use and safety checks 

• Keep equipment in good condition by returning equipment to storage area at end of class and notifying supervisor when equipment needs to be repaired 

• Stay informed about the program specifics such as session dates, prices, classes, days, and times 

• Work with the program director to ensure all participants are registered and in the correct class 

• Maintain accurate records of class attendance 

• Distribute bi-monthly progress reports to class participants ages 5+

• Maintain quality and safety in all classes, including an instructor to participant ratio of 1:8 

• Show enthusiasm, leadership, fairness, and fun through coaching style 

• Communicate with parents regarding program evaluations and participant progress 

• Immediately notify supervisor regarding participants or parent incidents 

• Attend training events and instructor clinics when made available 

• Encourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior; lead by example 

• Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures 

• The physical ability to safely spot, lead, demonstrate, and interact in group activities 

• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
• Other duties as assigned 

• Minimum of 16 years of age or older
• If actively enrolled in high school, a valid school district Work Permit is required
• 18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
• Previous experience working with children between ages 3-14 years old preferred 

• Previous gymnastics coaching experience a plus 
• CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute
