Overview

The Child Watch Assistant works under the supervision of the Child Watch Attendant and shares responsibility for the overall supervision of children and program planning for minor children ages (6 weeks - 12 years of age). This role is crucial in supporting children through play and structure activities while ensuring that each child feels cared for and safe.

Schedule

  • Location: Cameron Family YMCA
  • Must be available at least three days including Saturday
  • Available Shift Times:
    • Saturday: 7:50 am - 12:15 pm
    • Monday - Thursday 4:00-7:30
    • Scheduled any time between those hours

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate the provision of age-appropriate activities and events for children 
  • Supervise and engage with children in a safe and fun environment 
  • Monitor children's behavior to ensure safety and adherence to the Y’s rules
  • Provide care for children of various ages, including toddlers and preschoolers
  • Communicate effectively with members regarding their child’s experience and any concerns
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of participants and staff 
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, parents, members and co-workers 
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the children’s area 
  • Assist in planning, supervision and implementation of the daily schedule and curriculum 
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality and the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population 
  • Excellent customer service experience and organizational skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children and parents alike 
  • A compassionate approach to working with children, fostering a positive environment for growth and learning 
  • Ability to lift children and infants 
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time 
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 16 years of age or older
  • Actively enrolled in high school 
  • Valid school district Work Permit is required
  • Sincere interest in working with children

Pay Range

USD $17.25 - USD $20.41 /Hr.
