Overview

The Pickleball Specialty Instructor provide sports leadership to a group of YMCA participants in a sports clinic. The Instructor is responsible for leading a sports clinic for youth and/or adults in a specific sport such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, and others. The individual ensures an organized, safe, and impactive sports program operation for all participants. The Sports Specialty Instructor assists with the planning, leading, and supervision of youth and adult sports including practices, clinics, and games.

Schedule - Pickleball

  • Open availability throughout week. Evening pickleball clinics, private lessons, and starting youth pickleball clinics 

Responsibilities

  • Set up and breakdown of any required sports equipment for the sports clinic being offered 
  • Plan, lead, and supervise assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and games 
  • Maintain all sports equipment used by the sports department 
  • Facilitate group interaction among participants to encourage teamwork and friendships 
  • Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game play 
  • Ensure a safe program operation for all participants 
  • Create lesson plans to lead fun, engaging, and productive sports clinics 
  • Incorporate positive youth development in program lesson plans to build self-esteem and confidence 
  • Provide continual instruction and supervision of group and serve as a leader 
  • Maintain a positive relationship and ensure effective communication with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents 
  • Assist with clinic administration, track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices and maintain records as assigned 
  • Follow YMCA standards, procedures, guidelines, objectives and goals 
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in all phases of work with participants 
  • Instill, teach, and model YMCA values at all times 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required 
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform job related tasks 
  • 2+ years’ experience teaching or coaching in assigned sport area 
  • Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
