Overview

The Sports Instructor Assistant is responsible for assisting with the monitoring of youth and adult sports including practices, clinics, and games. The Assistant Instructor ensures the safety of all participants in planning and implementing quality YMCA programming. The individual will serve as a positive role model to all program participants.

Schedule MINORS ONLY - If you are 18 years of age or older and interested, please apply for the Sports Instructor role with Copley-Price position.

  • Monday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and games 
  • Assist with preparing sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdown 
  • Assist with maintenance of all sports equipment used by the sports department 
  • Assist the score keeper for assigned games 
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents 
  • Assist with tracking of attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices 
  • Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participants 
  • Ability to supervise and interact with staff and participants 
  • The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills 
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 16 years of age or older 
  • Actively enrolled in high school
  • Valid school district Work Permit is required  
  • Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of athletes, parents, and staff of diverse ethnic populations 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $17.25 - USD $20.41 /Hr.
