Overview

The Department Head is responsible for effectively managing Membership, Health & Wellness, and Aquatics departments and/or programs. The assigned departments are required to operate in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of San Diego County. The Department Head will be an active and important member of the management team of the dynamic multi-facility branch.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage day to day program functions for assigned departments and/or programs in order to meet program goals and expectations
  • Develop pro-active communication strategies for staff, members and branch leadership
  • Oversee all functions in assigned specialized area ensuring high quality, well-organized and effective programs/area, serving or reaching more people in the community each year
  • Pro-actively generate, maintain and evaluate budgets and records for the assigned department areas
  • Effectively supervise program/area staff by providing coaching and development
  • Other duties as assigne
  • Knowledge of PC application software
  • Ability to interpret, document and communicate support related issues
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to be flexible and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to motivate and train staff and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to persuasively present the mission and goals of the YMCA of San Diego County
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • 5+ years’ of experience supervising and/or managing Membership, Health & Wellness, and Aquatics programs
  • 2+ years' of experience supervising a staff team and or volunteers; including hiring, training, and evaluation
  • 2+ years' of experience with fiscal management, including budget creation and implementation
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $82,365.08 - USD $98,838.09 /Yr.
