Overview

The Childcare Business Support Consultant is responsible for supporting childcare programs with their business practices to help increase enrollment, income and quality. This position is responsible for helping improve childcare business administrative tasks such as payroll, recruiting, hiring, and managing staff, payroll and benefits processes, enrollment support, record-keeping and compliance with state and federal regulations and laws. 

 

This is a temporary special assignment working on supporting child care providers participating in Shared Services with training, coaching, and technical assistance to improve their business practices and sustainability, as well as potentially update and create business trainings and support materials.

SCHEDULE

  • This position is Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 5:30PM, with weekends and evenings as needed

WORK DESIGNATION:

  • Remote (must work within San Diego County Region) 
    • Some in person meetings with providers and team as needed 
    • Please note that the work designation may change based on business needs. 

Responsibilities

  • Utilize technology and support childcare program’s use of technology to increase enrollment, receive tuition 
    payments, and budget appropriately; Work with childcare sites to develop realistic program budgets and how 
    to monitor them
  • Become reliable in the Program Administration Scale (PAS) and Business Administration Scale (BAS) and 
    facilitate training and assessments utilizing them
  • Recruit providers to participate in Shared Services including outreach, enrollment, and ongoing participation in 
    the support services provided; Build and maintain strong and supportive working relationships with potential 
    and current childcare providers; Facilitate collaborative conversations among childcare providers to deeply 
    understand needs, gain input on solutions, and facilitate collaborative approaches across the childcare system
  • Work with the Childcare Referral staff to assist with provider updates and data entry on participating providers
    and Assist programs with marketing supports to increase enrollments including digital marketing
  • Research programs and supports for childcare programs including supports for business practices, bulk 
    purchasing, benefits for family childcare providers and their staff, and saving on other program expenses
  • Design and implement support systems for childcare providers that respond to provider needs and integrate 
    knowledge of best practices; research resources to support childcare programs and collaborate with 
    community partners
  • Maintain and ensure data integrity and accuracy in the required databases; Provide written program reports as 
    needed for the contract and meet contract deliverables
  • With supervisor support, implements continuous quality improvement through evaluation planning, and 
    quantitative and qualitative data collection, management and analysis
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, community and 
    state partners, to ensure efforts meet changing needs and opportunities in the community
  • Supports efforts to research and pursue new funding opportunities including assisting with writing funding 
    proposals and developing implementation plans
     

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel throughout San Diego County 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, human development, social work, business or related field required AND, 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in childcare including running a childcare business, preferably a family childcare home 
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

JOB COMPETENCIES:

  • Extensive content knowledge relevant to running a childcare business and the ability to provide support and technical assistance to other childcare businesses 
  • Experience hiring and supervising staff in a childcare program 
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse childcare providers and facilitating conversations with adults 
  • Experience with data entry, management and analysis for reporting and continuous quality improvement, ability to use technology competently including Microsoft Office products and data management systems 
  • Knowledge of the various types of childcare programs 
  • Ability to train, coach, and provide technical assistance to childcare providers 
  • Experience and comfort using technology to support business practices 
  • Ability to complete projects and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to be flexible and innovative, as the needs of the program evolve and to support childcare program needs 
  • Organized, confident, motivated team player that interacts comfortably with the community 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to perform outreach and engagement activities

  • Licensing, state law and our funders require that applicants be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications

Pay Range

USD $34.43 - USD $41.32 /Hr.
