Kitchen Shift Leader

Serves as the shift lead in the kitchen. Responsible for managing kitchen operations during food prep. May directly supervise cooks and kitchen assistants.

Schedule

Monday - Sunday (5:30am-2pm)

Location: Onsite at Camp Marston in Julian, CA

Responsibilities

  • Prepares menus and supervises kitchen staff in execution of meal preparation
  • Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Ensures safety of kitchen staff and campers by following proper food handling techniques and applicable safety regulations in handling and use of kitchen equipment
  • Observes and tests food being prepared. Serves as final check point in food preparation to ensure food is properly and thoroughly cooked before serving
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean workspace and complying with applicable health and safety codes, and ensures kitchen staff does the same
  • Responsible for rotating food, adhering to posted expiration dates, and may make orders and take food inventory

Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years food service experience required
  • Knowledge of kitchen procedures
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Food Handler Certification required prior to first shift in the kitchen
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $23.63 /Yr.
