Overview

The Club Instructor is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers and staff by actively greeting members and participants and providing excellent customer service, guidance and leadership. The Instructor creates and leads walking, running, and/or hiking exercise classes in a safe, effective and timely manner, appropriate to the level of the participants in class, to enhance the physical, mental and spiritual health of each student.

Schedule

  • Tuesday & Saturday 8am-10am

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive member experience through welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout 
  • Provides a safe workout by creating various walking or hiking routes within local areas of the YMCA 
  • Maintain a clean and safe workout area 
  • Builds community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their Health & Wellness Goals

  • Adheres to the core functions of the YMCA and exemplify Y Group Exercise Class Guidelines  
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency 
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities 
  • Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members 
  • Ability to lead a group of 3-15 people through a walk or hike activities 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

  • Formal education, usually obtained by a High School Diploma or GED or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, supplemented by specialized training in running, cardiovascular endurance, running mechanics  or a related field
  • 1+ year's of work experience actively leading successful group exercise class and knowledge of running mechanics, physiology, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility or overall fitness principles 
  • All job required trainings within 90 days from date of hire 
  • Strong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities 
  • Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications required 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: 
    • American Red Cross 
    • American Heart Association 
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $19.69 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
