Overview

The Overnight Waterfront Manager will oversee all aspects for the YMCA Camp Surf beach and waterfront as well as oversee the health and safety standards, practices, and compliance as established by the YMCA of San Diego County. The Overnight Waterfront Manager will maintain strong communication with branch leadership team on all YMCA policies, procedures, equipment, training, etc., as related to the program use of the beach and waterfront.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain all aspects of the Camp Surf beach and waterfront, including collaborating with other Program Directors to ensure appropriate coverage for all program needs 
  • Committed to creating a motivated and engaged team of ocean lifeguards including the hiring, training, scheduling, development, and evaluation. This includes but is not limited to Program Instructor, per diem, and summer ocean lifeguard staff, including Marston pool lifeguards.  
  • Supports the Castaways Coordinator in their development as an ocean lifeguard and waterfront supervisor 
  • Establish, develop, and maintain Junior Lifeguard program 
  • Maintain compliance it pertains to the waterfront, safety, certifications, and personnel 
  • Cultivate, develop, and maintain partnerships with the local, regional, or national lifeguard associations. Maintain strong working relationships with local water quality monitoring organizations 
  • Establish a system for ensuring ACA compliance for Camp Surf and assist with Camps Marston and Raintree 
  • Be an active member of the Camp Surf and YSD Overnight Camps program and department head teams 
    • Ability to learn various computer and database systems for record-keeping, calendar/registration/financial management, reporting, workflow, etc. Develop and model a good working knowledge of camp operating procedures

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, or related field; or equivalent experience required 
  • 2+ years' supervisory experience, overnight camp setting and youth experience highly desired 
  • 2+ years’ experience as an ocean-based waterfront lifeguard or related experience showing a commitment to learning the skills necessary to safely run the Camp Surf waterfront. 
  • Have current ability to get a CA driver’s license, good driving record, and qualify as a driver for the YMCA of San Diego County 
  • Must have CA driver’s license, a good driving record, qualify as a driver for the YMCA of San Diego and be willing to travel within county as needed 
  • Collaborate with the AED, ED, and Program Directors on the yearly budget creation, including all Waterfront and safety-related expenses including training, equipment, and supplies 
  • United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Certifier Certificate upon employment 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $70,304.00 - USD $78,747.88 /Yr.
